Recent events

In February 2011, Cyril McGibbon, a Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master, enjoyed a private celebration in his mother lodge to mark the 60th anniversary of his initiation into Freemasonry.

This followed the initiation of four new members, seen here with the WM, Kai Hughes.

The December 2010 meeting witnessed two teams at work in the lodge for the first time. The evening started with a double third degree conducted by the IPM, Jim Alty (seen here with the two candidates Matt Casson and Roy Weissnsteiner).

This was followed by the initiation of three final year undergraduates, conducted by the WM, Kai Hughes.

The installation meeting in November saw the initiation of two new students members, followed by the installation as WM of Kai Hughes. The occasion was marked by the visit of the Past Provincial Grand Master, Colin Penty Wright, seen here flanked by Keith Sanders and Kai Hughes

and the dining room was filled to capacity.

September saw many members attending the Association of Medical, University and Legal Lodges, held at St Bart’s Hospital, London

In the summer, the annual garden party was blessed with fine weather…

In Spring the WM and his wife hosted a Ladies' Evening at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club

where lodge members entertained the guests.

The meetings held by the University Lodge of Liverpool in February and March 2010 have both been interesting in their own ways.

In February Bro Roy Weissnsteiner, a joining member transferred from Sydney University Lodge in the Australia constitution was passed to the second degree in a double ceremony and was also presented with a joining certificate from Grand Lodge.

In March in an event without precedent in West Lancashire and by special dispensation 5 candidates were initiated in a single ceremony. Two were undergraduates at the University of Liverpool and Hope University, and the others part-time students or recent graduates.

Visit by the Assistant Grand Master, December 2009

The December meeting marked the highlight of a highly successful year. The President of the UGLE Universities Scheme, David Williamson AGM, visited the lodge accompanied by its Chairman, Bro Edward Lord and the PGM, Peter Hosker. Two candidates were initiated, and three joining members were received into the lodge. Installation Meeting, November 2009

The November meeting saw the Installation of a new WM, James Alty and the visit of the Deputy PGM, Brian Gilbanks. This was combined with a double second degree ceremony. The photograph shows the Lodge room prior to the arrival of Brian (below):

Joint 50th Celebration October 2009

The October meeting marked the 50th year in Freemasonry for both Geoff Eastmond and John Blackburn. Both were together at the University of Liverpool graduating in Chemistry. The photograph shows Geoff and John with Michael Hedley Hill (Assistant Provincial Grand Master) and David Goddard (WM) in the lodge room.

The October meeting also featured a double third degree, with Geoff taking the WM's chair and performing the ceremony. The photo shows Michael Hill with the two candidates, Mark and Matt.

Visit to AMULL, Christ Church, Oxford September 2009

The annual meeting of the Association of Medical, University and Legal Lodges took place in Oxford on a beautiful September day. Following a drinks reception in the Master’s garden lunch was taken in the college hall, followed by a musical recital in the college chapel/cathedral.
